Our MissionThe mission of Jonesboro Urban Renewal and Housing Authority is to assist low-income families with safe, decent and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives. The Housing Authority is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical and professional manner. The Housing Authority will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies in order to accomplish this mission.
Awards & HonorsThe Jonesboro Urban Renewal & Housing Authority is considered a HIGH PERFORMER by HUD standards. This means that we score high in SEMAP, the HUD grading system for Section 8, and PHAS, the HUD grading system for Public Housing. We are evaluated by HUD in our turnaround time of units and vouchers, physical inspections of Public Housing apartments, financial status and overall management.
Programs & ServicesJURHA owns and acts as the landlord for 151 rental units in Public Housing.  Within our inventory we offer a variety of one, two, three and four bedroom apartments and homes. Rent is income based. Successful applicants must meet all screening requirements including income levels set by HUD.Jonesboro Sunset Gardens is a designated elderly complex offering one bedroom apartments with a pleasant Community Room for activities that is managed by the Public Housing department.  Rent is income based and applicants must meet requirements for income level and background screening.Jonesboro Housing Authority manages Craighead Place Apartments on Belt Street.  Craighead Place offers three bedroom, 2 bath apartments.   Craighead Place accepts the Section 8 Voucher.  Rent is set and not negotiable.  Families must meet the Low Income Housing Tax Credit income limits as well as landlord, criminal background and credit screening to qualify.Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program offers rental assistance to qualified applicants.  The applicant, when eligible, receives a housing choice voucher for rental property located anywhere in Craighead County. The tenant finds a suitable unit, a landlord who is willing to accept rental assistance, and then contacts us. The property belongs to independent landlords, not the PHA. There are caps set by Federal Government for each locality nationally.  Section 8 HCV sponsors the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program which offers numerous workshops to assist and train clients to become self-sufficient and independent of government assistance.
