"Opening Doors to Affordable Housing"

Our Mission

The mission of Jonesboro Urban Renewal and Housing Authority is to assist low-income families with safe, decent and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives. The Housing Authority is committed to operating in an efficient, ethical and professional manner. The Housing Authority will create and maintain partnerships with its clients and appropriate community agencies in order to accomplish this mission.

Awards & Honors

The Jonesboro Urban Renewal & Housing Authority is considered a HIGH PERFORMER by HUD standards. This means that we score high in SEMAP, the HUD grading system for Section 8, and PHAS, the HUD grading system for Public Housing. We are evaluated by HUD in our turn around time of units and vouchers, physical inspections of Public Housing apartments, financial status and overall management.

Programs & Services

We provide several services to the residents of our housing communities, including a computer lab located in our Marshall Development with 10 internet computers available for use by all public housing residents.

We host several drug awareness events annually.

Our Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Homeownership Program enables Section 8 clients to purchase their own homes and receive assistance with their monthly payments. We currently have eighteen (18) homes on this program.

Our Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program offers numerous workshops to assist and train clients to become self-sufficient and independant of government assistance.

We also offer Section 8 rental assistance to qualified applicants. The applicant, when eligible, receives a housing choice voucher for rental property located anywhere in Craighead County. The tenant finds a suitable unit, a landlord who is willing to accept rental assistance, and then contacts us. The property belongs to independent landlords, not the PHA. There are caps set by Federal Government for each locality nationally. Please contact Jeannie Cossey for more information.
